President and CEO

The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce (Chamber) membership base is nine hundred members and is the largest chamber in an 8-county regional area. The Chamber has an annual budget of $900,000 and a chamber staff of 6. The Chamber Foundation has an annual budget of $ 800,000 and a staff of 4.

Position:

The President/CEO provides strategic direction, vision, and management for the programs and personnel of the Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce and its affiliates. He/she demonstrates expertise in strategic planning, member sales and services, program management, economic development, community development, public policy, nonprofit governance and operations, finance and accounting, public speaking, and fundraising. He/she has full responsibility for profit and loss, fiscal stability, and compliance. He/she will be a dynamic leader with the ability to manage current programs while developing new initiatives and partnerships with other business and community organizations to achieve local and regional goals and objectives.

This person must possess and demonstrate high standards of integrity, work ethic, trustworthiness, and personal responsibility.

Reporting:

The President/CEO reports to the Chamber Board of Directors in accordance with the by-laws, and on a regular basis to the Chamber Executive Committee (Chairman, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and Immediate Past Chair).

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strategic vision with extensive leadership skills to drive change management, mission fulfillment, and operational outcomes.

  • Broad knowledge of industry, entrepreneurship, and innovation.
  • Ability to develop, manage, and analyze financial data and budgets.
  • Strong understanding and collaboration with Chamber stakeholders such as civic leadership and partner organizations.
  • Facilitation skills with Chamber Board and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skills in human resource development including team building, problem solving, and performance management.
  • Exceptional written, listening, and oral communication skills with small and large stakeholders.
  • Experience building an organization brand and managing multi-media marketing, target marketing, and customer base marketing.
  • Strong community presence.
  • Adept at membership acquisition, stewardship, and retention.
  • Experience in program and event management.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning and Implementation: At the direction of the Board, the President/CEO creates and implements a shared vision and Strategic Plan to advance the Chamber’s mission.
  • Members Services and Sales: The President/CEO is responsible for the overall performance of the Chamber’s membership including membership acquisition, stewardship, and retention.
  • Program Management: The President/CEO oversees and assesses schedule, design, implementation, budget, and structure for the Chamber’s programs and events.
  • Economic Development: The President/CEO is required to work collaboratively with community organizations including business retention/expansion, infrastructure, workforce/education, health and safety, civic innovation, and regional collaboration with other economic and community development organizations.
  • Public Policy: The President/CEO represents the Chamber on a variety of public issues at the local, state, and federal levels which requires him/her to be engaged with policies, platforms, messaging, advocacy channels, and strategic relationships. This includes communicating impacts with members.
  • Board Relations, Nonprofit Governance and Operations: The President/CEO is responsible for attending all Board meetings. The President/CEO ensures the Board, governance bodies, committees, and volunteer leaders are engaged and aligned to support the mission and functional activities of the Chamber. The President/CEO and Board have joint responsibility including a system for sharing information that enables the Board to effectively carry out its governance role.
  • The President/CEO provides oversight to chamber affiliates providing support and guidance to align on mission and functional activities of the Chamber.
  • Finance and Accounting: The President/CEO ensures the Chamber follows accepted accounting and financial practices that ensures organizational safety and soundness, achieves budget targets, sustains operations, and grows capacity for new initiatives.
  • Public Relations/Marketing: The President/CEO is responsible for creating and maintaining a dynamic and forward-thinking public image for the organization, including strategies for marketing, communications, media relations, community relations and public speaking.
  • Fundraising: The President/CEO oversees the Lima Area Chamber Foundation and is responsible for its programs, agency employees, philanthropic relations, donor engagement, grant writing, and program growth.
  • Community Relationship and Partnership Management: The President/CEO is responsible for managing relations and partnerships with community organizations/agencies and attends meetings of importance with the City of Lima, Allen County Commissioners, Officials, Greater Lima Region, Allen Economic Development Group, Downtown Lima, Activate Allen County, Allen Lima Leadership, Ohio Means Jobs, Makerspace, Potts Entrepreneur Board and others as needed.
  • Administration and Staff Management: The President/CEO is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Chamber and is responsible for effectively managing staff to achieve the objectives of the Strategic Plan.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master’s degree is preferred but related experience will be considered in lieu of academic credentials.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in management and leadership positions within the private, public, or nonprofit sectors demonstrating progressively greater responsibility is preferred.

Compensation Package: Will be market competitive and based on experience. It will include base salary, bonus, benefits and reimbursement on relocation expenses.

Salary Range $ 75K - $ 120K Depending on Education and Experience
