Job Description
The role will reside within the Legal and Compliance Division's Operational Risk Department, focusing on Data Quality within the firm's inventories of various types of operational assets (such as technology assets).
Operational Risk refers to the risk of financial or other loss, or potential damage to a firm's reputation, resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people, systems, or from external events. The firm may incur operational risk across the full scope of its business activities, including revenue-generating activities (e.g., sales and trading) and control groups (e.g., information technology and trade processing).
This position will serve as the lead for the Operational Asset Inventory Data Quality Oversight, within ORD's Data Quality Oversight team. The position will focus on Data Quality within the firm's inventories of various types of operational assets (such as technology assets and third-party services). Having high quality information about the firm's operational assets is an essential, foundational element for effective risk management. The role will include setting the overall framework for inventory data quality (in accordance with the team's broader data quality framework), managing the firm's policy on this topic, providing oversight of first-line implementation, and participating in key committees and working groups.
Primary Responsibilities
- Own and continue to refine the Global Operational Asset Policy, as an extension of the data quality pillar focused on operational asset inventories, such as the firm's inventory of technology assets.
- Manage the data quality control framework for operational asset inventories as well as oversee the first-line implementation of associated data initiatives, with an initial focus on the firm's inventory of technology assets.
- Review and challenge the quality of information in operational asset inventories, with an initial focus on the firm's inventory of technology assets.
- Ensure appropriate integration across operational asset inventories, such as the firm's inventory of technology assets and third-party services.
- Coordinate with operational asset accountable parties across business units to make sure business owners are appropriately maintaining inventory quality.
- Contribute to relevant committees and lead working groups.
- Bachelor's Degree minimum.
- Knowledge of common approaches to data quality.
- Previous experience working in data and information risk, data governance, data architecture, or enterprise data modeling is desired.
- Previous experience driving the adoption of new programs and policies is a plus.
- Displayed ability to influence stakeholders and drive projects through to completion.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to influence and catalyze decisions from senior management.
- Strong leadership and project management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to present complex issues clearly is essential.
For New York, expected base pay rates for the role will be between $85,000 and $135,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
