Job Description Summary
The Division of Facilities and Real Estate Services (FRES) provides the expertise, business process, policies and standards required to plan, design, construct, operate, maintain and renew the physical assets of the University, excluding the health system. In addition, the Division, comprised of approximately five Departments, is responsible for the strategic planning, management and operation of non-academic University property, and collaborating with the neighborhood to create a safe, diverse and economically vibrant destination. With close to 12M square feet of space, FRES maintains 186 buildings on a campus of 276 acres, completes over 60,000 maintenance requests per year, and starts approximately 250 projects a year. FRES is comprised of the following Departments: Administration, Office of the University Architect, Design and Construction, Real Estate, Operations and Maintenance.

The University of Pennsylvania is implementing a campus transformation entitled Penn Connects (). This comprehensive, award winning effort is expanding the campus over the next 20 years, including the construction of new academic research and recreational facilities. In addition, the University has secured $300M in Century Bond funding and continues to upgrade existing facilities over the coming years. Information.

Job Description

Electrical Operator

Must have High School Diploma or GED.

Must have successfully completed one of the following:
  • An approved accredited electrical apprenticeship (4- 5-year program) in Low & High voltage Electrical Systems and have obtained 3 to 2 years experience respectively post program graduation.
  • A low & High voltage trade specific vocational school (2-year program) with 5 years of experience post program graduation or/
  • A low & high voltage Electrical trade-specific military school(s) with 5 years experience.

Must meet the following requirements :
  • Must have 5-7 years of experience in the electrical trades.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the position including extensive walking, standing, bending, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting at least 50 pounds. Must be able to accept shift work if required.
  • Must possess valid driver's license, free of any suspension/revocation from the individual state of permanent residence.
  • Must have experience and willingness to conduct work in a multi-trades job environment, work on multiple types of building equipment and systems, and work other trades personnel as assigned.

Must have the following Trade specific skills :
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods used in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems 0- 15 KV as well as understanding of components associated with these systems (15KV switch gear, motor control centers, motors, variable frequency drives, AHU components)
  • Experience installing, repairing and troubleshooting VFD's, motor controls & motor control centers.
  • Experience operating and maintaining electrical distribution systems and their associated auxiliary equipment from 208V-15Kv.
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting with the materials and tools required while repairing all components associated with 15KV main substations and building level substations and distribution systems.
  • Knowledge and practices with rules and regulations required by NEC, OSHA, and NFPA 70E, with the understanding all the PPE required to perform work assignments.
  • Ability to interpret and work from electrical schematics, drawings, sketches and O&M manuals.
  • Experience with installing and repair all types and sizes of electrical conduit.
