Reporting to the Managing Director, Comprehensive Leadership Programs, the Director, Executive Coaching works to create an environment where Executive Education (ExEd) participants from around the globe participate in various forms of Executive and Leadership Coaching as an integrated part of their ExEd program experience.

  • Manage and oversee the Executive Coaching function in Executive Education, which includes the Assistant Director of Executive Coaching and three (3) coordinators.
  • Hire and manage 100+ Executive Coaches (contractors) who will work with approximately 1,600 ExEd participants annually through 1:1 and group level sessions.
  • Source, train, and evaluate pool of Executive Coaches to meet evolving portfolio needs.
  • Nurture relationships with Harvard Business School faculty and ExEd Program Directors to collaboratively innovate and integrate coaching elements across the ExEd portfolio of programs which include: Open Enrollment Programs, Custom Programs, and Regional Programs.
  • Serve as a center of excellence in Executive Coaching for ExEd.
  • Collaborate and establish relationships with other areas of Harvard Business School and Harvard University as needed.
  • Oversight of communications, materials, and evaluations to coaches and participants.
  • Collaborate with team to create, customize, and maintain materials and coaching content of each program.
  • Provide coaching to ExEd participants and guidance to Executive Coaches on a 'as needed' basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Minimum of 8 years' relevant work experience

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Other Required Qualifications:
  • Certified in Hogan, ESCI, Kantor, ITC, and/or other methodologies.
  • 10 plus years of experience with executive coaching, consulting, and curriculum design required.
  • Team player with an eye for detail and skills to collaborate with multiple teams in fast-paced, high-energy, often ambiguous, environment.
  • Proven track record of fostering collaboration and effectively functioning within team environments and ideally a higher-ed environment or department.
  • Strong leadership skills and great judgment, plus proven track record of bringing innovation and creativity to complex business issues required.
  • Proven ability to develop trusting working relationships with colleagues, business partners, and clients.
  • Skilled in advanced communication techniques to deliver clear and impactful messages to both internal and external stakeholders and diverse management tiers.
  • Some evenings and weekends required.
Additional/Desired Qualifications:
  • MA/MS or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in executive development helpful.

Additional Information

This is a hybrid position which we consider to be a combination of remote and on site work at our Boston, MA based campus. HBS expects all staff to be onsite 3 days per week and departments provide onsite coverage Monday - Friday. Please note that for the first 90 days of employment, you will be expected to be onsite 5 days/week. Specific hours and days onsite will be determined by business needs and are subject to change with appropriate advanced notice.
